Nexus NI has today released a new animation aimed at raising awareness of Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) and encouraging collective action to prevent it. The short production, created as part of Nexus’ ongoing commitment to challenge harmful attitudes and support victim, highlights the forms gender-based violence can take and the everyday realities faced by women and girls across Northern Ireland.
Through clear, accessible visuals and carefully crafted messaging, the animation underscores that violence against women and girls is not inevitable—and that meaningful change requires a societal, cultural, and institutional response. It has been designed for use across education, community settings, professional training, and public awareness campaigns.
First Minister Michelle O’Neill said: “Ending Violence Against Women and Girls is a key priority for The Executive. I want to thank Nexus for its important work supporting victims and challenging the harmful attitudes and behaviours that allow abuse to persist. This animation is a powerful tool which complements our Ending Violence Against Women & Girls Framework and will help us achieve our goals by raising awareness, sparking conversation, and promoting the cultural change we need to protect women and girls.”
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said: “Violence against women and girls has no place in our society, and tackling it requires sustained commitment across government, public services, and our communities. This new animation from Nexus NI is an important resource in raising awareness of the realities too many women and girls face every day and will help to challenge harmful attitudes.
This new resource will strengthen prevention and help drive the change we urgently need.”
Joanne Barnes, CEO of Nexus NI, said: “Ending violence against women and girls requires all of us to recognise the scale of the issue and to take responsibility for changing it. At Nexus, we support individuals every day who are living with the lasting impact of abuse, and we know how urgently society must respond. This animation was created to raise awareness, spark conversations, and empower people to challenge attitudes and behaviours that enable harm. We hope it becomes a valuable resource for education, prevention, and real cultural change.”
Nexus is the leading organisation within Northern Ireland (NI) supporting individuals impacted by sexual abuse and abusive relationships. Every year in Northern Ireland there are thousands of sexual abuse and abusive relationship offences reported to police, and thousands more go unreported. The supports and services that Nexus provide are primarily focused on enabling positive change for those impacted by sexual abuse and abusive relationships. The organisation continues to advocate for improved services, stronger protections, and greater public understanding of EVAWG.
