THE BEACON PROJECT

Trauma-informed support for young people in care.

The Beacon Project is a trauma-informed early intervention programme supporting young people in looked-after care and community settings who have been identified as experiencing, or at increased risk of vulnerability to exploitation and harm.

The project recognises that many of these young people have experienced significant adversity, including trauma, abuse, neglect, poverty and social exclusion, and aims to provide safe, consistent support that builds resilience, confidence and protective factors.

Alongside direct work with young people, the project will also build the confidence and skills of staff working within care settings, ensuring a trauma-informed response to disclosures and safeguarding concerns.

The programme has been developed using evidence from our existing services, lived experience through the Nexus User Forum, and partnership working with Health Trusts, Youth Justice Agency, PSNI, NIACRO, Probation Board and other stakeholders.
