Nexus NI are looking for board members!

We are ambitious as an organisation and want to grow our services to support more people.  As part of this drive we would like to invite interested parties to apply to sit as voluntary directors on the Charity’s board.

There are two main roles of the board; Supporting and scrutinising the CEO on the basis of Good Corporate Governance and assisting in the formulating of strategy to achieve Nexus NI’s objectives.

There are uncertain and challenging times ahead for the community and voluntary sector and Nexus wants to equip itself with a broad and appropriate skills base to ensure our sustainability.

We are looking for several trustees with particular skills in:

Financial Expertise – will have experience of financial management. As part of the Board, will work with the Chair/Treasurer to oversee the charity’s financial goals as well as other strategic aims.

Counselling/Psychotherapy background – will have experience of work in this field ideally from professional career. .

Property/Asset Management Experience – will have experience of managing/refurbishing property and/or of property markets in NI.

Legal Experience – will have experience of law and some knowledge or interest in charity law specifically.

As a board member of Nexus NI you have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Help to steer the strategic direction of a charity with over 30 years’ experience within its field
  • Avail of personal and professional development opportunities during your tenure
  • Develop within the board into office bearer roles
  • Have an impact in the lives of those who have been affected by sexual violence
  • Opportunity to develop further professional networks

Board meetings happen bi-monthly and normally last for up to 2 hours.  Committee meetings which normally happen quarterly, last up to 2 hours.

Title Volunteer Counsellors

Job Information

The successful applicants will be required to have the following experience, qualifications and skills

Essential

  • Completion of a Level 4 or higher diploma in counselling course (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 100 hours of supervised counselling practice
  • The ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of counselling skills, theory and application
  • Basic knowledge of issues relating to sexual abuse
  • Basic knowledge of mental health issues
  • An ability to recognise and appropriately deal with risk
  • Membrship (or student membership) or BACP, NCS or ICAP

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with survivors of sexual abuse
  • Have engaged in personal therapy

Duties

  • To provide one to one counselling sessions for Nexus NI
  • To keep records of all client work and attendance at supervision
  • To adhere to the code of ethics of the BACP or equivalent.
  • To actively pursue personal development and growth as a counsellor
  • To have knowledge of and adhere to Nexus NI policies, procedures  and practise

Terms & conditions

  • Accountable to the Operations Manager & Clinical Manager
  • Clinical supervision will be provided by Nexus NI as required
  • Travel expenses will be payable
  • Notice period of one month on either side required.
  • Attendance at a formal induction and ongoing training will be required.

Selection procedure

  • Application by a Nexus NI application form only.  Monitoring form must be returned to the monitoring officer by post.
  • After short-listing suitable volunteer cousnelling will be invited for interview which will include a role play.
  • At least 2 references will be obtained.
  • Any appointment will be subject to an acceptable Access NI Enhanced Check.
