Local women from the newly established Tangent Club in Enniskillen are celebrating after raising an impressive £800 from their first fundraising event for Nexus NI.

The establishment of the Tangent Club also gives Enniskillen the accolade of being the only town in Northern Ireland to have all 4 Clubs from the Round Table Family and offer local men and women aged 18 and over the opportunity to come together for fun, friendship and to support local causes.

The Tangent Club started their year-long calendar of activities for Nexus with a summer BBQ and raffle.

Commenting on the success of their first event, founding member, Ruth Loizides said:

“We are so pleased to be able to present Nexus with such a substantial gift following our summer BBQ.  This event officially established our club as part of the Tangent Association and we were delighted to welcome our President and club members from across the UK to Enniskillen to help us celebrate.

I’d like to thank everyone who supported this event in aid of Nexus, including those who attended on the night, those who gave a donation and all the local businesses which kindly donated prizes for our raffle.  Every bit of support has contributed to this wonderful total which we know will be put to good use by Nexus in their work providing specialist counselling to survivors of sexual violence.

Karen Dunlop-Wainwright, Community Fundraising Lead with Nexus NI said:

“This donation and all the hard work of the ladies to raise funds and much needed awareness of our work in Enniskillen means so much.  We currently have 2 counsellors in the town who see 19 people each week but we have 27 people who are currently waiting on our services and many more who are suffering in silence. This donation, along with the club’s future support will help to cut waiting times and fund local survivors through a full 18-week programme of specialist counselling with Nexus.

Breaking the silence on sexual violence is a monumental task and we rely on the support from others including individuals, groups and businesses to help us start conversations, break down barriers and remove the stigma which prevents victims from coming forward and seeking help.”
