Lace up for Nexus in the Belfast Marathon

Home / Nexus / Lace up for Nexus in the Belfast Marathon

We are looking for individuals and teams to lace up their trainers on Monday 7th May and get involved in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon in aid of Nexus NI.

There is an event and distance to suit all abilities from the full 26.2 mile marathon to 3-7mile legs of the team relay or an 8 mile walk. This is a great way to raise funds for our charity, while taking on a personal challenge or getting out with family, friends or colleagues to pound the pavements and soak up the atmosphere.  Our Community Fundraising Lead, Karen Dunlop-Wainwright is taking on her first ever marathon and is calling for people to join her this May Day to raise both funds and awareness for Nexus.

Commenting on the event, Karen said: “The Belfast Marathon is one of the biggest local sporting events and a fantastic way to raise funds for charity. The atmosphere on the day is brilliant and I’d encourage everyone to get involved and be part of it. I’ve taken part in the team relay in 2014 and also the half marathon in 2016 and 2017 and really enjoyed them all. This year, I’ve decided to push things a bit further and run the full 26.2 miles! I was lucky to be selected by the event organizers to be part of their Experiment 26.2 group – a group of 16 people from across NI who are all embarking on their first ever marathon!

As the Community Fundraising Lead for Nexus, I see first-hand the amazing work that is done to support survivors of sexual violence and how much your support and donations mean to our work and those we help. We’re asking people to ‘Make Noise for Nexus’ and help to break the silence on sexual violence by raising sponsorship and awareness. I’m using my feet to make noise by doing something I enjoy which is running and I’d love to see others join me on May Day! By taking part, you will not only be raising vital funds to help sustain our services, but also important awareness of who we are and who we help.”
